You’re probably blind to your biggest gift

Hey Reader,

Have you ever felt like no matter how much you accomplish, something is still missing?

Like there’s an invisible barrier between where you are now and where you know you could be?

Funny thing is you might already have the one thing you need to break through to your next level.

But there’s a good chance you’re blind to it.

Most successful entrepreneurs are so determined to close the gap between where they are and where they think they should be, that they overlook the strengths that could set them apart.

In today’s newsletter, we’ll explore how you can stop dismissing the one thing that could change everything for you.

🗯️ The Story You’re Living Without Realizing

Ever heard the parable of the man searching for treasure in his backyard?

He spends his life digging and digging, looking for wealth.

He searches every corner, and analyzes every patch of dirt, but finds nothing.

Frustrated and disheartened, he moves to sell the house.

Only after he leaves, does someone else move in and uncover a chest of gold buried right beneath the man’s favorite reading spot.

All the while, he had been sitting on his treasure.

This may come off as cliché but it is people’s reality.

Maybe you too.

Sitting on your chest of gold.

🧠 Why You Don’t See It

The things that make you extraordinary can feel ordinary to you.

This ignorance often starts with comparison.

You might look at other high performers in your field and immediately focus on where you fall short.

You see someone with a killer sales instinct, and suddenly you think, “I need to get better at sales.”

Or a competitor excels at marketing, and you convince yourself that until you master branding, you’ll never truly measure up.

And then there’s validation.

External achievements, accolades, and praise can feel so tangible.

They become your metric for success.

You aim to stack up more trophies, more wins, and more proof of your worth.

But while you’re busy chasing external approval, you miss the internal power you already have.

You barely notice the gift that feels so natural to you.

You take it for granted because, to you, it’s “just the way I am.”

And as long as you overlook that innate ability, it sits dormant and untapped.

While you waste energy trying to fit into shoes that aren’t meant for you.

❤️ The Power of Your Hidden Gift

The most game-changing thing you can do for your life and business is to fully step into the gift that’s already yours.

Your biggest gift isn’t just talent, it’s the part of you that feels effortless.

The part you assume everyone else has because it comes so naturally to you.

But what’s easy for you isn’t really easy for others.

While you’re casually redesigning workflows over coffee, others are spending thousands on efficiency consultants to achieve the same thing.

And that’s exactly why ‘easy’ is your edge.

When you pay attention to the ‘easy’ things here and there, you start to see yourself clearly.

You’ll stop measuring yourself by someone else’s playbook.

You’ll stop second-guessing whether you’re on the right path because you’ll recognize how powerful your decisions feel when they’re rooted in your gift.

You’ll begin to trust your way of doing things instead of borrowing strategies that don’t suit you.

You go from trying to do everything to excelling at what only you can do.

You’ll feel unstoppable as you let your gift lead the way.

🤲 Discover Your Gift, Elevate Your Success

I used to be blind to my gifts.

Finding them made me realize how much potential I had allowed to waste away in search of status and accolades.

Here are ways that helped me identify my gifts, and can help you too:

  1. Ask someone who knows you well: Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to point out what’s obvious to everyone except you. Reach out to trusted friends, colleagues, or mentors and ask, “What’s one thing I do effortlessly that stands out to you?” Listen carefully to what they highlight.
  2. Look at the patterns in your wins: Think back over your biggest accomplishments. What skills or mindsets were you leaning into? Were there consistent qualities or approaches you used without even thinking? The ones that feel too simple to matter? Those are your clues.
  3. Pay attention to your “flow moments”: “Flow” happens when you’re fully immersed in something that feels natural. What’s the work or activity you could do for hours without feeling drained? That’s another clue to your gift.
  4. Reflect with brutal honesty: Block out 30 minutes, grab a journal, and write: What are people always thanking me for? What problems do I solve without thinking? If I could do one thing for the rest of my life, what would it be?

Your answers will reveal more than you expect.

🎯 What’s Your Gift?

So, what’s the gift you’ve been blind to?

Don’t let it stay hidden.

You owe it to yourself and the people you lead to find it, embrace it, and let it guide you forward.

Maybe it’s your natural ability to inspire.

Your uncanny knack for seeing patterns others miss.

Your quick adaptability.

Your instinct for spotting market gaps.

Or your talent for simplifying complex problems.

It doesn’t have to be flashy or loud, it only has to be you.

As Maya Angelou wisely said, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

So embrace your unique gifts and use them to thrive.

With appreciation,

Hey Reader, On this week’s podcast, a listener asked if comparison is avoidable when you’re training with people faster than you, and how that plays out beyond running. And it reminded me of something that happened recently. Back in 2017, I connected on Strava with a guy called Joey Whelan. We were in the same running circles in San Antonio at the time. He was one of the quicker guys, and I was a little quicker back then too. We were sort of in the same world, following each other’s runs,...

Hey Reader, A listener wrote in after hearing us talk about holding back in races in our podcast episode. He said he’d been thinking about why he always seemed to hold back in his races. He realized he only really pushes himself once he can see the finish and knows he’ll make it. In his head, the thought of blowing up and not finishing feels worse than finishing with a bad time. He said people probably wouldn’t care that he finished five or ten minutes slower. But they’d know if he blew up...

Hey Reader, A listener asked a great question on this week's podcast. When it gets hard and your brain starts throwing out excuses to stop, how do you tell the difference between your mind genuinely protecting you and just being scared? I smiled because I'd been asking myself that very question a few days earlier. I was out in the mountains of Colorado with my friend, attempting a 3-day Hard Rock loop. It’s a 100-mile loop through some of the highest, most remote mountains in the US, with...
