You’ve probably heard me talk about the #75Hard program.
I might sound like a broken record at this point.
But this newsletter is not about the program itself, it’s about the voice in our head that tries to talk us out of doing the hard things.
75Hard isn’t the hard part of the program, it’s completing the next 3 phases.
And this is where the voice that makes you think you don’t need to do the next hard thing comes in.
Let’s get to it.
🗯️ The voice that never shuts up
When I first started 75Hard, it was a big deal.
Drinking a gallon of water, doing two workouts, reading 10 pages of a book, sticking to a diet, and taking progress pictures daily for 75 days felt like a massive shift.
But now?
75Hard doesn’t feel “hard” anymore. It has become part of my routine.
I completed phases 1 and 2, and I’m starting the final phase 3 of the program tomorrow.
This phase requires the same six tasks as 75 HARD along with:
- 3 critical power list tasks (in addition to your five normal power tasks)
- 5-minute cold shower
- Talking to a stranger (a conversation past a simple “hello”)
- One random act of kindness
When I started to gear up for this final phase, that little voice piped up.
“Why do you need to do this?”
“Why bother with more?”
“Do you really need to push further?”
“You’ve already proven yourself.”
“Talking to a stranger every day?”
“Random acts of kindness? That sounds inconvenient.”
This wasn’t the voice of laziness, it was the voice of comfort.
It knew my baseline and wanted me to stay there.
It made me realize that the voice doesn’t go away.
It gets sneakier, smarter, more logical, and more convincing.
The more you level up, the more it levels up with you.
🧠 Good enough is the enemy of great
Once we’ve achieved something big, we tend to let that accomplishment lull us into comfort.
You hit a new baseline. And then… you stall.
Because the voice convinces you that you’ve done enough.
That the next level isn’t worth the effort.
That it’s too inconvenient, too uncomfortable, too unnecessary, or too risky.
It tells you not to reach out to that potential client, not to take that risk, not to commit to that new habit.
The more you listen to it, the more it wins.
Think back to when you took on a challenge that has become a part of your routine.
What did the voice tell you?
“It’s not necessary? The risk is not worth it? Why accept the offer? You won’t have time for that?”
But you did it anyway. And you won.
But you’ve got to watch it.
The voice didn’t disappear, it just got quieter.
Waiting for the right moment to be back.
The moment to resist the version of you that’s ready to grow, to evolve, and to become unstoppable.
If you’re not careful, it’ll keep you stuck at “good enough” when you’re capable of extraordinary.
❤️ The real hard thing is the fight against comfort
Let’s talk about when you’ve just done something you’ve been avoiding.
Maybe it’s starting a new habit, or committing to a challenge that scares you.
How does it feel?
There’s a quiet pride, isn’t there?
A sense of alignment, the feeling that you’re living intentionally, and the increased trust in yourself.
That’s the power of choosing growth over comfort.
When you silence that voice, you start to see the next level not as a burden, but as an opportunity.
You'll see that the voice in your head is there to test your grit to push past that comfort zone.
You’ll realize leveling up isn’t about proving anything to anyone else.
That you’re willing to keep growing, evolving, and impacting lives.
You'll know you have so much potential you’re yet to tap.
So you’ll look forward to more with purpose and grit.
You become unfuckwithable.
Living each day with clarity, resilience, fortitude, and a bulletproof mindset.
What a fulfilling way to live life.
🤲 Keep pushing past the baseline
So, how do you silence the voice and take the next step?
Here’s how I did it, you can try them too:
- Call out the voice: When the excuses start to pop in your head, speak to them. Don’t ignore Write them down if you can. You’ll see how flimsy they are.
- Make new baselines: What are you already consistent at? Identify three new habits or actions that will push you further away from that baseline. Then pick ones that scare you a little, and start with it.
- Commit publicly: Share your next challenge with someone who will push you when you want to slip. Join accountability groups (online communities, local meetups). Tell 3-5 trusted friends or a mentor who will check in on your progress. Accountability kills excuses.
- Win the day: Don’t focus on the next 30 days or the whole challenge. Win today. Then do it again tomorrow.
